Be ready to vote and participate with confidence
If you're eligible to vote, you'll receive your credentials by SMS and email before the meeting. You'll vote using your web browser and participate in the meeting via Zoom. The best setup is to watch the meeting on your computer and vote using your phone or tablet.
Before the Meeting
Make sure you're ready to participate and vote.
-
Use a strong internet connection and have at least one device available (computer, tablet, or phone). Two devices—one for Zoom and one for voting—is ideal.
-
Try the practice vote (sent the day before the meeting) to get familiar with how ElectionBuddy works. It’s quick, and helps you feel more confident when the real vote happens.
For full setup instructions, check out: How to Prepare for the Virtual Meeting
3. Voting During the Meeting
ElectionBuddy will send you a single email and SMS message at the start of the voting process containing your unique voting credentials and a link to access the meeting page where you will vote. You’ll vote directly in your web browser for the entire meeting. You can’t share your device for voting — one device per voter is required.
How to vote (it's a multi-step process):
1. | Tap the Meeting Page link in your SMS (Text) message or email. Stay on this page until the chair instructs you to vote. |
|
2. | When it is time to vote, tap the Vote Name button (if there is no button, refresh the page). |
|
3. | Make your voting selection, then tap Continue. |
|
4. |
Review your choice:
|
|
5. | Look for the confirmation code. If you don’t see one, you haven't finished voting. | |
6. | Tap Next Vote to return to the Meeting Page and wait for the next vote. |
You’ll repeat steps 2–6 for each vote during the meeting.
4. Troubleshooting ElectionBuddy
If something goes wrong, return to the Meeting Page and try again:
RAE's Meeting Page link: https://secure.electionbuddy.com/m/therae
- If you close the ElectionBuddy tab in your web browser, click the Meeting Page link above or in your email or sms message to reopen.
- If you see You’ve already voted or Voting has ended click the Meeting Page link above or in your email or sms message to return to the voting starting page.
- If you see This ballot doesn’t seem to exist visit the Meeting Page link and ensure that you enter your access key and password exactly (no extra spaces or characters) as you see them in your voting credentials emails.
5. Participating in Zoom
-
Microphones: You'll be muted when you join. When it's your turn to speak, you’ll see a Zoom prompt to unmute yourself.
-
No camera required: Member cameras will be off. Only speakers and presenters will appear on video.
-
Raise Hand: Use the Raise Hand button under the Reactions tab to ask to speak.
-
Chat for Tech Support Only: Use the chat for technical support. Don’t post questions or comments unless directed.
6. Additional Tips
-
Download the meeting package from the Member Portal before the meeting.
-
Stay focused: Once voting starts, it happens fast. Be ready to switch to the voting screen as directed.
-
Speaking tips: Keep your comments brief. State your name and position (for or against). This helps ensure everyone gets a chance to participate.
